Lung Cancer Risk for Patients Undergoing Cardiac Chest CT: Identification of a New High Risk Population for Lung Cancer Screening.

Patients getting heart scans show unexpectedly high lung cancer rates and represent a readily identifiable group who could benefit from earlier cancer screening.

This Stanford 13-year retrospective study of 17,232 cardiac CT patients demonstrates that this population has a lung cancer incidence significantly higher than the general population, yet the majority (including 72 lung cancer cases) did not qualify for USPSTF-guideline lung cancer screening at the time of their cardiac CT.
