Patient-reported outcomes after idecabtagene vicleucel vs. ciltacabtagene autoleucel CAR-T for multiple myeloma

First real-world comparison of two CAR-T therapies in blood cancer patients shows similar quality-of-life patterns, helping guide personalized treatment choices.

This first prospective real-world PRO study in RRMM CAR-T recipients (n=99; ide-cel vs cilta-cel) found similar HRQOL trajectories for both products — worsening before day 7 then improving — but identified differences in social well-being and cognitive function recovery between products. These PRO data are the first to characterize the comparative patient experience of standard-of-care CAR-T in RRMM, informing shared decision-making and supportive care planning.

What the study was

Prospective observational cohort study with piecewise growth curve models
Population
Patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) receiving standard-of-care CAR-T therapy (ide-cel n=49, cilta-cel n=50)
Sample size
99

Why it surfaced

First study to assess comparative PRO trajectories for two FDA-approved standard-of-care CAR-T products (ide-cel vs cilta-cel) in real-world RRMM. Fills a key evidence gap for patient counseling and shared decision-making. Score limited by observational design and relatively small n=99.
