Efficacy and Safety of Atrasentan in Patients with IgA Nephropathy Receiving Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors: Placebo-Controlled, Crossover Trial.
Adding atrasentan to existing kidney-protective drugs may provide extra benefit for IgA nephropathy patients at risk of progressive kidney loss.
This placebo-controlled crossover trial from JASN assesses whether atrasentan provides additional renoprotective benefit on top of SGLT2 inhibitors in IgA nephropathy, which may inform combination treatment strategy in a condition with significant renal progression risk. The ASSIST trial design is timely given recent SGLT2i guideline adoption for IgAN.

Why it surfaced
RCT design in JASN; directly addresses SGLT2i combination therapy — a very active area; IgA nephropathy is a progressive renal disease with growing therapeutic focus.
