A Clinical Lipidomics Platform: Development and Validation of a High-Throughput LC-MS Assay for Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment

A rapid blood lipid test predicts heart disease risk better than traditional scores, especially for intermediate-risk patients, and takes only six minutes to run.

This study validated a high-throughput 6-minute clinical lipidomics platform measuring 270 lipid species, demonstrating excellent correlation with a full research-grade platform and showing that the derived Lipidomic Risk Score outperforms the traditional Framingham Risk Score for cardiovascular risk prediction, particularly in intermediate-risk patients. The 6-minute assay runtime and automated processing address major barriers to clinical lipidomics adoption.
