Integrative Multi-Omics Analysis Reveals the Characteristic Metabolic Signature of Glioma and Enables Plasma-Based Liquid Biopsy
A simple blood test showing seven metabolites can now detect gliomas with over 96% accuracy, potentially offering families faster, noninvasive diagnosis.
Using multi-omics profiling of 189 glioma tissue samples and plasma metabolomics in 430 participants, researchers identified a 7-metabolite plasma signature (including creatine, lactate, succinate) that mirrors core glioma metabolic reprogramming. The resulting liquid biopsy classifier achieved AUC=0.964 in adult glioma and 0.925 in pediatric brain tumors, offering a potentially accessible noninvasive diagnostic tool.
